Like many of you, I am a frustrated musician. After years of taking drum lessons from various teachers, I noticed one consistent piece of advice: “play along with your records.” And that makes sense, right? Doing so works on your time, your ear, and your musical application of things you practice. Oh, yeah, and not to mention rocking out with your favorite bands. But, it just doesn’t feel right. It’s hard to hear yourself with other instruments playing the same thing. Or, if you’re trying to get creative, that’s even harder to hear with a recording.
So, out of that frustration came the idea for “Playing With The Band.” One day, as I was learning a song, I wondered if there was a program that would remove from a song whichever instrument you were playing. For any of you interested in physics, go look it up, ‘cause it’s not easy. So instead, we’ve gone through the trouble (and, believe me, there was plenty of it) of re-recording songs for you, so that we could remove tracks for you. These recordings were produced at the top studios in Nashville using some of the best musicians, vocalists, engineers, and producers in the business. We matched every little nuance of the original recordings, even if it was some kind of crazy mishap that has gone down in music history. First we had to choose our songs, though. Classic rock seems to be common ground among musicians, so we came up with some of the biggest hits in the genre. Hey, even though many of these guys are dead, you’ll swear you’re “Playing with the Band”.
